“Give us this day

our daily bread”

Holding up

open hands

to receive

good gifts

our needs,

not wants

for this day,

not tomorrow

to ask daily,

not weekly

trust his time

to provide

sustenance for

body and soul.

Exactly 40 words with title and

Jesus fasted 40 days and nights in the wilderness…

“our needs, / not wants”…shines in the darkness…

So much meaning in so few words.. but some are taking away the bread and ask for daily meat… meaning of bread is gradually loosing I think… we need to come back to bread.

i have fasted a few days…its always a sweet feel to breaking fast…and it does center us on what we are given, what we receive…and stirs gratitude

I enjoyed the parallels – 40 words, 40 days fasting; and yes, we do need to remember to ask daily rather than less often for sustenance for body and soul. I liked your photo too.

I had never thought about the fact that we ask for ‘daily’ bread, no more. This is a very thought-provoking poem in only 40 words.

We can get too far ahead of ourselves if we ask for too much too soon…perhaps to be construed as greediness. I like the thought of all our needs being provided.

I’ve tried fasting, only lasted 4 days tho; the goal was a week… oy… Still can work my way to 40 days tho, right? smiles…
