if jazz is blue, then
blues play cerulean
rock & roll thumps a
loudly violent violet
rap taps bold blood,
so immodestly garnet
country music waxes
into mellow marigold
gospel soothes with its
rich emerald harmony
while classical sounds
notably black & white
Synesthesia is a neurological phenomenon in which stimulation of one sense leads to automatic, involuntary experiences of a second one. Seeing music as colors is one form of synesthesia. (recent prompt by Grace at dVerse poets)

Each music has its own color… and probably different hues for each of us.

The alliteration adds another level of synaesthetics, I think. A masterful effort.

I love your poem as it lays out sounds and colors. I never thought about before, but classical music really is black and white in many different ways!

Beautifully penned, and some of what you associate are colors I’ve never could have imagined them being in (in my mind’s eye). It’s so fascinating and intriguing to see how others perceive the same object in entirely different ideas. For instance, when you think of jazz as blue, I see it as a dark patterned red. How incredible is that?
Such an excellent poem. I enjoyed reading it.
