a poem in my pocket

dear little Maggie,

we look forward to meeting you,
our newest granddaughter
in December; counting weeks
but not knowing exactly when.

as you form delicately
in your mother’s womb,
we pray for blood
and bone and soft-
petaled cheeks…

anticipation of cuddles and kisses!
