Stirred by theme of “vocation or call” at d’Verse Poets today…
_______
young women
attend college
afraid to admit
perhaps their
fondest dream:
“I just want to
be a mother.”
“JUST” ??!!
go for it, girl!
yes, do pursue
the education
you desire in
becoming a
better person
but don’t let
any feminazi
talking head
denigrate you
for aspiring to
the high calling
of motherhood!
_______
They say that man is mighty,
He governs land and sea,
He wields a mighty sceptre,
O’er lesser powers that be,
But a mightier power and stronger,
Man from his throne has hurled,
For the hand that rocks the cradle,
Is the hand that rules the world.
-William Ross Wallace

I need to show your poem to my daughter. She has lots of formal education, but being a mother is the most challenging, rewarding and valuable of all her vocations.

It makes me happy that you would share it!

It was my highest calling 🙂

Yes, C.C. Emphatically YES!

Good take on the prompt … the point of a vocation is that it’s your calling and no-one elses!

Thanks…only ONE of each of us.

Some answer the call to motherhood, some are drawn to other things ~ I believe that a woman should decide and choose her destiny, smiles ~

I believe young women should be encouraged to do both. It is great to be both a mother and be able to land back on a decent job if they need or wish to.

Yes, there is wisdom in being prepared.

Being a mother (or grandmother) indeed brings a lot of joy. It definitely is a rewarding ‘calling.’

I agree, Mary.

Wow wow wow–yes. By the way, I forgot to tell you how much I like your blog name, Poem In My Pocket–I believe that day is coming up mid-April, isn’t it?
Apr 01, 2015 @ 04:55:31
Thanks, Dusty. I named my blog before I was aware of “Poem in Your Pocket Day”(which is April 30 this year). A great way to celebrate National Poetry Month!
Apr 01, 2015 @ 04:59:06
Oh, the 30th–thanks!!

Lovely and inspiring. Girls should do as women what they really want to do and feel is right for them. How great that you speak of motherhood with such love and respect.
Apr 01, 2015 @ 04:53:36
Yes, not every girl will be a mother…every calling is unique to that person!
Mar 31, 2015 @ 22:38:53
motherhood is a wonderful calling and i often think the most important and precious thing i’ve done so far is to raise my kids
Apr 01, 2015 @ 04:51:49
Absolutely!
Mar 31, 2015 @ 22:35:03
Very nice, and yes, a mother, the world’s most important role
Apr 01, 2015 @ 04:51:05
