gospel in a villanelle

IMG_1831Which side of the cross are you?
Criminals hang on either side
Repent, believe God’s Son, be new!

One robber gives Christ honor due
The other curses while he died
Which side of the cross are you?

Jesus’ grace invites me and you
From his offer we cannot hide
Repent, believe God’s Son, be new!

I confess that I’m a sinner too
I broke God’s law each time I lied
Which side of the cross are you?

All fall below the bar, it’s true
Our condemnation is justified
Repent, believe God’s Son, be new!

The choice today; what will you do?
I pray you would with faith decide
On which side of Christ’s cross are you?
Repent, believe, God makes all things new!

Beautiful! I love the repeated refrain “Which side of the cross are you?” and then the change up in the final stanza to “Which side of Christ’s cross are you?” Excellent villanelle for this Easter weekend. I think the form poetry like this works so well for faith-based themes. Peace, Linda

This is marvelous, Lynn. I remember the first time I realized which of the two men I was, and felt gratitude anew. Blessed Easter to you.

The villanelle form works well here for driving home the idea that there is a choice to make. Happy Easter to you.

Just in time for the Easter Celebration ~ Admiring the refrain lines of:

On which side of Christ’s cross are you?
Repent, believe, God can make you new!

The comma after believe, was a strong point. Great job with the villanelle form ~ Thanks for participating and wishing you Happy Easter ~
