whimsy on brick wall

Inspired by online poetry class with John Sibley Williams.

______________

Living flames of cypresses
leap upward as evergreen branches
swirl like burning driftwood.

Even Vincent’s baby blue
skies curl with playful energy
trying to escape lemon peel moon,
which already took a bite from cotton
candy cloud floating above wave
of distant mesa’s high water.

Saffron grasses dance freely in
summer breeze while eyes of
wildflowers and juniper berries
look on with a childlike joy.

Cypresses by Van Gogh, 1889

spring fling

_______

I once pushed two grand kids on swings
when the big sister started to sing:
“We do like to fly
so high in the sky”

Grandma thinks it’d be fun to have wings!

________

shades of glory

He paints pale pewter twilight
with splash of blood-orange dawn;
a wash of lemon yellow morning,
with buttermilk clouds layered
on cornflower background,
blends to tangerine afternoon;
then, sweet lavender dusk which
transforms eggplant evening
into deep indigo night.

______________

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1

original

I attended a special art exhibition of watercolors by artist, Judy Thompson, paired with poetry by her daughter, Kristin Gifford.

look up

A photo and quadrille of 44 words for dVerse poets on “sky” theme…

i desire to be
a prisoner of hope
captivated by love

learning to surrender
to ultimate good will;

transformed, renewed,
impassioned and freed

to serve, unreservedly, as
we await full redemption

when Jesus, our glorious
hope, returns in blazing
sky with power to reign!

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. “

(Romans 5:1 & 2 NIV)
