At d’Verse Poets today, Toni invites us to write about the “dog days” of summer…
not gonna miss ‘em
our dog days are over
weather cools to 80’s
summer humidity drops
we can breathe again
heat made us both pant
my sweet silly Lily girl
husky-lab fur face friend
her final breaths labor
humidity of tears drop
105 fevered body cools
my dog’s days are over
oh, how i miss her !
Lily: faithful friend, walking partner, and quite possibly the best dog ever!

This makes me ache–I’ve lost 3 wonderful dogs and still have two–but losing them is the hardest thing ever. They teach us so much about unconditional love. Lily–a beautiful name for a beautiful dog.

I had a dog too and the whole family couldn’t accept her passing – your lovely tribute brought back some memories Lynn.

Hope it brought good memories, Abhra!

You used the feelings of dog days as experienced through a dog most efficiently and the twist at the end is very poignant.

Thanks, Gabriella.

A lovely imaginative tribute to dog days, combining pathos with heat index. All of us who have lost a canine family member fully empathize with your message; sending white light, hugs, & a tub of ice ASAP.

I do appreciate your empathy, Glenn.

Thank you, Claudia. She isn’t the first dog I’ve/we’ve lost…and perhaps not the last.

Oh, this is so sad, Lynn. You have given a totally different slant on ‘dog days.’ I am so sorry for your loss. I know how empty days can be without such a friend.

I know you understand, Mary. Thanks.
