Swift summer spent, we know it’s back to school
when FedEx truck delivers loads of books.
To study here at home we think it’s cool
yet clueless people give us funny looks
because we never worry what we wear;
Change out of your pajamas, I must ask
then after chores, at least please comb your hair;
put on proud smile, you’re always top of class!
Peer pressure is a concept we don’t know
though sibling rivalry we understand.
Real life relationships can bloom and grow
when we learn side by side, walk hand in hand.
If there’s one thing home school deprived of us
we’d like, just once, to ride in yellow bus!

Great form for a great (if challenging) concept – I like the pyjamas and the sibling rivalry creeping in.
My older son hates the school bus – he’s always pretending he’s running late and that I need to drive him.
I can’t imagine my kids wanting to do anything that I suggest or recommend or say or show them (even though at some point I was a teacher), so homeschooling never seemed like an option.

The yellow bus was not a big deal. In the winter it was cold, in the summer hot, and somebody always had a sneezing cold or threw up. Really. Fun poem this is.

It takes a lot to do it right, but you also control what your students learn – and what they dont have to hear. I wonder were you part of a union? Did you use an accredited program? How did it impact post secondary acceptance? community college first?

Parents are ultimately responsible for their children’s education. We benefitted from both local and state associations. Most colleges are happy to have home schooled students as they’re independent learners 🙂

My husband and I both attended private schools but decided to try homeschooling…and our family thrived on it.
