See Grace’s prompt at dVerse Poets on “arrangements” with artist Emily Blincoe.
indulge patriotism, for an
obsessive~compulsive eater
the meticulous arrangement
is everything. count (again)
each frenched frye laid out
one~by~one ordered from
longest to shortest in rows
of greasy perfection thus
book~ended between a
bloody pile of catch~up
and souvenir wrapper.
lick salty fingers (again)
wipe salivating mouth
(and repeat again) in a
slow death by fast food
oh, whata~way~to~go!

Delicious and gross/excessive at the same time. Well done!

Thanks 😛

Reminds me of the compulsion I’ve heard of where someone won’t let one food touch another on their plate. That level of compulsive behavior seems so painful–it’s hard enough just to lean towards perfectionism. I like the word play in this, Lynn.

Painful for sure…thanks for your comment, Victoria.

I suppose that even fry consumption can be an OCD issue 🙂

Emily’s image struck me that way…

Sad to think that even greasy foods can become orderly for some.

All in its proper place, I suppose.

Mmmmmm. This was somehow both delicious AND poetic. 😉

We chose the same photo and I love the compulsive eating until a slow death !!!

Thanks, Grace.

I can so easily see someone do this… maybe sorting them is the only restraint against utmost and total overindulgence… making death a little be slower.

What an incredible poem! I never thought of compulsive eating before but it seems you have nailed it. It seems a dark road along which to walk.

…when a temptation becomes an addiction, it can be ruinous.
Sep 28, 2016 @ 13:18:06
Yes, it most definitely can. I knew a girl years ago who starved herself to death…the opposite end of the compulsion.

So sad!
