wild horses gallop
through her mind’s long ago rooms
spirit whinnies free
wonders why they corralled her
in nursing home’s confined stall

The corralled, and maybe broke, old woman is such a poignant image compared to the young, galloping free one.

Thanks, Mary…yes, maybe broken. But the spirit lives on, even when body is old.

I would wonder too, Lynn. Wild horse lovers don’t deserve to be confined in a nursing home. Do any of us? BTW, I rode a horse to my first two years of high school. Nebraska.
This is a nice micro-poem. (I’m also logged in at the Imaginary Garden)

One does associate them with freedom – and this makes me think she’s a bit demented with age as they have now “corralled” her. Alzheimers or anything like it is so very sad.
