“Tonight, I want you to write a poem of anticipation. Maybe you’re hoping for something wonderful, maybe you’re afraid of retribution, maybe you’re just desperate to get off the bus.” – Sarah hosting at dVerse Poets pub

oh, sweet anticipation
we grandparents-to-be
(again, yes…times ten!)
phone rings, son calling
does he have news? no
he’s coming over and
do i have meal for him?
while he sits at our table
his wife calls him, news?
contractions begun? not
yet, not even warm-ups
grandma must breathe
slowly, deeply, let all
tension exhale, relax
check calendar days
due date comes…goes

Oh it is such an expectancy without the bump. Hope you are blessed soon as nothing can really be done until the day of birth. Or perhaps just offer food to expectant parents. I found it really overwhelming and it’s now nearly my granddaughters second birthday.

Such a joy beyond explanation and truly an anticipation to be termed gramps and grannie. The best part of it is that it is duplicated many times through the years. Beautiful subject lynn!

….oh so many of us can relate to this….
watching the calendar and seeing that due date approach and then sail by…
nervous tension when it was our pregnancy and, surprisingly, even more nervous tension when it is our daughter or daughter-in-law’s due date! No matter how many times the birthing process happens in a family or extended family….it is always a time of anticipation!

You know the feeling, Lillian! 17th was the date and (im)patiently waiting…I always went past my due dates with my pregnancies too.
