sorrow’s train

squabs hatched near old depot
downy nestlings have flown
lonesome dove cries softly
for orphan far from home

destiny now switches course
where railway freight cars roam
wail of distant train horn
calls orphan far from home

mothers, father, grandparents
took one-way ticket loan
my heartsong of mourning
as orphan far from home

Orphan far from home, an immediate image / emotion comes to mind. A lovely write.

I can hear the ‘lonesome whistle’ of the train through your lines here Lynn – a sad tale and poignantly told!

Very nicely done Lynn! I love the ducks… and the parents and grandparents taking their last trip home!

Lovely and sad. That repeated orphan line works well.

That yearning to be home is powerful in this! The repetition works perfect!

Interesting images with the birds, train and tying it all together with the orphan theme.
