unprecedented (or just dented)

Sometimes political rhetoric sounds a lot like Bilbo Baggins at his 111st birthday party: ” I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.” -J.R.R. Tolkien, Fellowship of the Ring

______________

i probably should not say this but

would tell a loud lie by my silence so:

have you heard how (well, you will now)

americans are more confused in ’24?

we will caucus (or maybe couscous)

and vote in primary without primary

names on ballots (pass the shallots)

a former president still wears title,

unembarrassed by indictments; can’t

his party find fresher (parsley, please?)

while current office holder is propped to

take the stand if only he wouldn’t stumble

over words, thoughts, and own border.

Good one Lynn. I am most confused by American politics (I am from Canada). Happy new year!

This is fantastic, Lynn! 🩷🩷 I so enjoyed the use of Litotes here especially; “a former president still wears title, unembarrassed by indictments; can’t his party find fresher (parsley, please?)” You took the prompt to the next level!

Thank you so much for writing to the prompt 😍😍

Not sure how I got there but glad to know I did! I never knew the term “litotes” before but can see how they’re effective. Thank you, Sanaa.

I am confused too… is this really the best politics can do… I fear that very will even bother about vote (and knowing that only a few swing states really count it is understandable)

Lynn, your poem is a clever and witty commentary on the current state of affairs. The way you play with words and use humor to address serious issues is both engaging and thought-provoking. It’s a skillful blend of satire and insight. Great work! 🌟📜

This was great Lynn. I love the way you used the litote so well! And you are exactly right! We need fresh parsley on both sides!

I’m glad you enjoyed this one, Melissa. I’m not sure it fit dVerse prompt with “litotes” but that’s where i started and ended up with a recipe (for disaster)! Sometimes you gotta laugh at politics or it will make you cry!
