NOTE: The paradelle is one of the more demanding French fixed forms, first appearing in the langue d’oc love poetry of the eleventh century. It is a poem of four six-line stanzas in which the first and second lines, as well as the third and fourth lines of the first three stanzas, must be identical. The fifth and sixth lines, which traditionally resolve these stanzas, must use all the words from the preceding lines and only those words. Similarly, the final stanza must use every word from all the preceding stanzas and only those words.
This was a spoof poetry form invented by Billy Collins and re-published on dVerse Poets by Grace.

You weave this beautifully Lynn, and with both pathos and bathos, a fine balance of macabre and humour.

Thanks so much, Paul! “Bathos” was unfamiliar term for me…but it fits 😀

*applause!*
I really enjoyed this one, Lynn! ‘Fun’ (as some others have noted) as exactly right to describe this read 🙂

Glad you liked it!

Hi Lynn, you had me at the title already, smiles. The set up of the skeleton in the front lawn with a missing pumpkin head is scary enough. I will be probably skipping the house on Halloween night. We celebrate the All Soul this weekend. Thanks for joining in.

Thanks for the interesting prompt, Grace! I had some fun with this but don’t really celebrate halloween myself. We remember Reformation Day as a church.

Love it all, and I was wondering how much was spooky and how much was a revenge on the ex 🙂
Here we only celebrate all saints day (and it is always on Saturday). A good time to visit the graves and set up candles.

I think you may be right about revenge! Our churches remember Reformation Day in Sunday services (Protestant churches, of course).

Lynn, I really like how the final stanza shakes out in this form. Yours was definitely spooky!

Thanks, Lisa…mood went madcap macabre!
