close restaurants
and coffee shops,
take away my chai
latte and stuffed crab,
hang the last TP rolls
from nearest tree, and
cancel church services
even if infected with
coronavirus at home
(my childhood home
was on corona street)
& quarantined, i will
yet have a sanctuary
for my heart to rest
within the soul’s home
found in Yahweh/God
whose name is breath;
i breathe His presence
as close as a heartbeat,
prayers whispered and
translated by the Spirit
forever and ever amen.

our first inhale
inspires a wail
every breath on lease
until breathing cease
his name rests on our tongues
spirit fills up our lungs
oxygen’s gifts from above
inspire us to be, do, love
fuller gulps we request
when exerting our best
inhaling the holy
exhaling the hurtful
breathe in life’s air
breathe out a prayer
our final breath
expires in death
until…
resuscitated to life beyond here
drink deep of celestial atmosphere

if i could write
the story
of us,
i’d wake up
to you next to me
every morning
and watch
you breathe
regular
and gently
trace the edge
of your angular
shoulder blade
and feel your
warmth
even before
we sleepily
embrace,
entangled…
breathe!

Still-life form lay in garden;
very image of the holy tri-unity
perfectly cast in brown clay.
The divine animator stoops,
gently cradles prone body, then
exhales his inimitable spirit life.
Heart beats as chest rises;
eyes flutter open in surprise
as first man meets his maker.
Breathe on us, into us,
that we, so cold dead in sin,
might inhale pure love with
respirations of clear joy,
to live grace-full and forgiven;
the image of God, restored.
