sunflower children

golden chorus of

summer school girls

in vibrant green dresses,

flowing blond tresses, giggle;

bowing in unison to their

ancient director in due

respect; warm with

anticipation of an

“ode to joy” opus.

    When I think of happy things, sunflowers come to mind. And yes, they are a perfect expression of joy and praise. Lovely.

    Of course, I love this image of the sunflower school girls, bowing to their director, waiting to sing these words:

    Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,
    God of glory, Lord of love;
    hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee,
    hail Thee as the sun above.

    Hi Lynn I like this poem … and have -re-done it into a haiku/senryu:

    ode to joy
    sunflowers golden and green
    bow in praise

    they bow in praise
    to their ancient Creator
    ode to joy

    What do you think of this cascading haiku?
