Senryu: a haiku on human foibles
extreme tolerance
has hijacked freedom of speech
living in Babel
Babel is biblical site where languages were confused…similar to “babble”. Tolerance for every idea equally (whether true/false, right/wrong, good/evil) will lead to confusion and chaos…are we living there? I believe we must show tolerance to our fellow human beings but debate ideas/opinions exercising our freedom of speech. What do YOU think?

It is pretty crazy. i, for one, happen to give greater credence to a host of climate scientists in terms of scientific things, than people entrenched with certain business interests! k.

Very nice haiku – and what an interesting point you opened. I think in many ways freedom of speech has been hijacked – at all different levels. There is a lot of rudeness too, which is not connected to freedom of speech, but is connected to speech! Such a big topic. In the end, one cannot curtail ideas, and in many ways chaos is good, as a sort of natural order. In Britain ‘hate speech’ is a criminal offence and that is one way of trying to keep a balance. Sometimes the ideas are not bad, but badly interpreted and applied. Actually Feminism springs to mind in this context. Anyway, nice post – very!

Yes, it seems that rudeness (and crudeness) are increasing in our world, online (and off). Thank you for your thoughtful comment about ideas and how we express them.

You’ve combined the “tolerance” meme with this one and yes, I agree. Though we must try to listen to others this dosen’t mean we must tolerate everything that is said in the name of free speach. Well done.

Next to debate we have to listen carefully and open minded. Than … maybe than peace will become closer …

Peace is a worthy goal…thanks for starting this discussion with your haiku prompt on Carpe Diem’s “Tackle It Tuesday”.

You’re welcome Lynn … it’s meant to be a ‘trigger’ to think ‘out of the box’.

We need to debate – and that involves listening. Too little “listening” these days. o.O
Aug 28, 2014 @ 03:01:57
Yes, we need to really listen to each other…good point!
