hey man, whatsup?
’tis the season to glow

hustlers glitter under streetlight
like shards of broken window
neon sign blinks cheap hotel

alley cats’ eyes flicker between
garbage dumpsters in row
yowling fight over dead fish

it’s Christmas eve, yeah
sell me some snow!

Linking with dVerse poets where Lillian hosts a “glowing” quadrille…

This is like putting some of Dickens’ commentary of a Christmas Carol in a modern glow… can almost see Scrooge walking around in that darkness

Thanks for reminding us Lynn of the “other side” of the holiday glow.

Lynn, I see your poem as a cry in the wilderness for the disempowered.

Oh my!!!! That third and fourth stanza are amazing! What a punch you give to this! And oh yes…..so sadly we must realize there are individuals, people with hearts and needs and loves and cares, who do not find this a wonderful and comforting holiday season. For them, the life, the challenges, the raw act of living just keeps happening as if it’s any other day.
