Rome is burning

as a poet cannot

make a muse move,

a prophet cannot

demand a message

but listen and wait for

Spirit’s quiet flame

when light of truth shines

do we crawl into shadow?

when brutal history repeats

do we hide behind mask?

world system in rebellion

haters will project hate and

throw Christians to the lions to

tempt God to shut their mouths

but Lion of Judah will roar as

the last Word on the last day.

When I read Lisa’s challenge to write in the “vatic voice”, I wasn’t sure I’d have anything to say. As usual, I waited and let the idea roll around in my mind. I heard news of rude criticisms of SCOTUS nominee, Amy Coney Barrett, and her adoption of children from Haiti and it seems she is “suspect” because of her faith. Then something sparked in me…

I think that people are concerned that Cristian beliefs will be forced upon them… I think everyone is entitled to their own beliefs… There are those fearing the inquisition and those who fear being cast to the lions.

It does feel particularly Biblical at present. Your poem captures the intensity of these times well.

A Scripture I have had in mind today is: “Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils; for what account is to be made of him?”, Isaiah 2: 22. It seems to cover the present times.

We ‘listen and wait for/Spirit’s quite flame’ I love that! A quiet flame and a spirit of love burns brighter than a false message of hate.

I suspect she is suspect because of her faith. I don’t see what her adopting children from Haiti has to do with her being a capable Supreme Court justice.

Very well done Lynn. I agree the way we treat our elected officials is atrocious! She is as fine a candidate as you could find!
