palely colored
bulbous abdomen
of barn arachnid
curls like gray sack
drawstrung by eight
delicately jointed
and banded legs
poised on sticky orb
of doorway deathtrap;
four legs hold fly still
for fangs to clamp
down as spider
lingers long over
breakfast of blood
I dislike spiders but my muse lingers on arachnid theme so here’s another one for dVerse poets’ Monday quadrille (44 words) with Linda Lee Lyberg.

Lynn,
Your descriptive prowess, esp. “gray sack/drawstrung,” is so mesmerizingly engaging until “breakfast of blood” brings it to a gruesome close. Loved it.

Hi Dora, so glad you liked it! The spider weaves a web, a poet spins words 🙂
Sep 21, 2021 @ 08:51:16
Ok, if your goal was to make my skin crawl, mission accomplished!
Sep 21, 2021 @ 09:02:59
🙂

This is so creepy-gruesome–and so well done! I’m OK with spiders, as long as they’re not inside.
Sep 21, 2021 @ 09:04:52
Thanks, Merril…I like to observe them from “safe” distance. I zoomed in for photo.
Sep 21, 2021 @ 09:09:59
🤣
Sep 21, 2021 @ 05:14:00
a novel subject Lynn but they do linger over food – and you painted the picture so well especially I liked
“curls like gray sack
drawstrung by eight”
Sep 21, 2021 @ 09:05:52
Thank you, Laura…i like how that came together too.
Sep 21, 2021 @ 00:45:00
I love the way you draw out the imagery here, winding towards a bloodthirsty conclusion!
Sep 21, 2021 @ 09:06:48

A creepy crawly lingers…..

👌👌👌✒️ I have respect for the work of spiders. Without them, we would wade knee-deep in the bodies of dead insects…
Sep 21, 2021 @ 09:07:51
So true, they have a necessary part to play!
Sep 20, 2021 @ 22:05:31
A perfect Halloween poem. I especially like, “doorway deathtrap”
Sep 21, 2021 @ 09:08:27
Thanks for reading, Ali 🙂
Sep 20, 2021 @ 19:01:35

Sep 20, 2021 @ 18:53:02
This is almost too descriptive. 🙂 Effective imagery!
Sep 20, 2021 @ 20:09:57
Thanks for the compliment!
Sep 20, 2021 @ 18:42:14
Good for the spider but not for me. Have a good week!
Sep 20, 2021 @ 18:47:02
Agreed 🙂
Sep 20, 2021 @ 16:16:26
I am not a fan of spiders either, and your poem made me shiver. Well done!
Sep 20, 2021 @ 17:20:49
Thanks, Linda! May your thoughts not linger there 😉
