yes, i remember fondly my first hat
white straw with strap on chin and blue ribbon
with lacy gloves on church bench there i sat
clean folded hankie was Easter sermon.
my father had lieutenant’s naval cap
we played with it as kids in neighborhood
whoever wore the hat commanded map
and others followed orders as they should.
now that i’m older, friends go out in style
we dress in purple bling, red hats feathered
when we appear, we usually bring a smile
we laugh and learn to love life well-weathered.
reveal under my hat, mind’s mystery

I remember those days of hats with chin straps, gloves, and dress ups at holidays. Thanks for bringing those memories back to me. I love your pic, with your Red Hat Ladies Society outfit. There is something empowering about going on outings dressed up like that.

I missed the prompt… and I do love my hat which is a tweed flat cap… here in Sweden we have a saying about old men in flat caps, and that fits me well.
Mar 20, 2022 @ 17:18:28
Bjorn, what’s the saying in Sweden about old men in flat caps?
Mar 20, 2022 @ 21:18:00
Yes, I want to know the saying too 🙂

From the title, I was intrigued.
And what a lovely picture with you sitting there, hanky and all, hands folded. Loved that first stanza.
The rest too. But that first one was precious.
And you in photo at the bottom. Delicious. Thanks. Lovely sonnet in your bonnet 👏

I believe every one of us has a hat story, thank you for sharing yours, I really enjoyed reading it and vicariously walking through your memories in this part :”my father had lieutenant’s naval cap
we played with it as kids in neighborhood
whoever wore the hat commanded map
and others followed orders as they should.”

That hat stirred our young imaginations. Thanks for reading, Oloriel!
