This post from 2012 has the story. https://jadcock.blogspot.com/2012/11/disaster.html

He had a second blood clot in September 2012 following knee replacement. The vena cava filter caught the majority of that clot. He still spent about 4 days in the hospital as to quote the physician, “his lungs look like he has buckshot in them on the scans.” I call him my Lazarus.

Every single medical person said it was a pure miracle. Dr. John, the surgeon and thoracic specialist, said it was more than medicine that saved my husband. Each day is a blessing. Even though Gene is constantly misplacing keys, billfolds, etc., Each day is blessed. Stats for surviving a second blood clot are low. He even fell on his bike causing a bleed in his leg, he is on blood thinners permanently so bleeds easily. The fall required emergency surgery to remove the massive hematoma. The doctor said his leg was already showing signs of dying cells only 7 hours after the fall. The man keeps me on my toes keeping him alive and on my knees ask for God’s help!
