Her father registered as democrat, like his brothers. They thought they were standing up for the “little guy” against a big, bad republic. But over the years, he felt the sting of high taxes for ineffective social programs which actually hurt a lot of “little guys” in the long run and made dependents of capable people. He became disillusioned and changed parties after realizing he usually voted republican anyway.
So when his daughter turned eighteen and could legally vote, she registered as republican and proudly voted for president Reagan. She considered herself a feminist until she realized abortion was big, bloody business that actually hurt a lot of women and “little guys”. She became disillusioned with political rhetoric and eventually switched to be independent.
Socialism breeds violence, as proven by history. Every day unfurls as it must; our government “under God” should promote justice!
Time for tea at dVerse poets hosted by Lisa. We are writing prosery of 144 words and incorporating this quote from Adrienne Su’s poem, Oolong: “Every day unfurls as it must.“
Considering the recent events in U.S. (assassination attempt on presidential candidate), we must speak for truth and justice, not spout violent political rhetoric. Maybe if we discuss politics over a cup of tea, we can all be more civil in our disagreements.

I just look at the US right now an feel sad at the mess unfolding. I do think all sides have used violence through history (I’m uncertain why Americans right of centre have a thing about socialism, so many good examples). We don’t have the registration structure you have, we are automatically registered after turning 18, but while I have tried both major parties, I now vote as I feel – mostly for integrity leaders in the minor parties. I live for the the time we might all have opportunity to live peaceably and without fear, and hoping for leaders of substance and integrity.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Paul!

Very welcome Lynn ❤️

Hi Lynn, I wish we could get together and talk over a cup of tea! I think we’d find things we could agree about. I do not share your views here–except that we should speak truth and not spout violent rhetoric. Nor should we spread misinformation. I think it would be great if we had a multiparty system, but right now, we don’t. I cherish our freedoms, so I am hoping for a Blue landslide and the defeat of Project 2025.

I appreciate your response, Merril…it would be great to talk over tea 🙂 I wish both parties had better candidates!

so topical Lynn – our latest ‘socialist’ government won a landslide on just a 52% turnout (including postal votes). Disillusionment is the tip of the iceberg

We are disillusioned yet free countries need citizens to take voting rights/responsibilities seriously. Too many in this world have no vote or voice in their government!

Lynn, I appreciate you sharing your political perspective with the prompt. Lately I feel like politicians of all ilks are best at manipulation and coercion, with the rare exception.
Jul 16, 2024 @ 09:21:49
It does seem so…sadly. But we must still exercise our voice and rights…government officials should be accountable to the people!

One word response: VOTE

I like your interesting story. After becoming disillusioned by both parties, I have registered as an independent as well.
Jul 16, 2024 @ 09:31:14
Thanks for your comment, Dwight! I haven’t switched to independent yet but am considering it.
Jul 15, 2024 @ 17:15:14
I am registered as Independent. I’ve been registered since I was old enough to vote, and only voted in one election. I decided to start voting in local elections, only to find out I’m barred from doing so unless I join a party. Nope. It shouldn’t be that way.
Jul 15, 2024 @ 17:30:40
I agree, it shouldn’t be that way. I think our two party system has polarized the people!
