half~moon swoon

i look up as half~moon looks down like…

…shiny cat’s eye blinks through clouds, prowling night sky

…textured pearl peeks from buttonhole in velvet evening jacket

…half~eaten cookie left on God’s midnight marble countertop

…broken frisbee dropped by angels playing constellation disc golf

…abandoned baby bib lying on floor among milk-splattered stars

…bright coin slipping into slot of heavenly vending machine

…sleepy headlight on black coupe driving home past curfew

trapped?

Lillian hosts dVerse poets pub where she’s serving quadrilles till sunrise.

dark cloud
gathers
over house,
heavy weight
of self-pity
settles in;
crawls into
bed with
depression to
brood sombre
mood;
unsettling
helpless inhabitants
who desire respite
but cannot
escape
shadow of
“woe-is-poor-me”
midnight feeling
…unless
faith dawns
miraculous
at sunrise.

mysterious crossing

Shiki, one of the Big Five haiku poets, wrote this in classical style:

when I looked back,
the man who passed
was lost in the mist

his haunting haiku inspires my attempt as follows:

glance out my window

cloud wisps pass before half moon

glimpse coyote shadows
