Written for dVerse poets quadrille #15 on “leaves” theme.
cicada chorus hums in grass
daylight shuffles a retreat
autumnal dirge crescendos fast
music follows frosty sleet
mournful geese raise the call
barren branches grieve their leaves
flutter down in wistful fall
time’s march sighs reprieve
when voice of pumpkin
sings ripely from garden

IT was wistful, and beautiful imagery, and then a great, orange reminder of the joys of harvest!

I too love how you move from the mournful grieving leaves to the voice of Mr. Pumpkin! Marvelous.

I can almost feel that the pumpkin is a happy old man… maybe comforting the barren branches.

Yes, I like that image of Mr. Pumpkin 🙂

Just too gorgeous. I LOVE this:
“barren branches grieve their leaves
flutter down in wistful fall”
And the contrast of that ending, giving the pumpkin a joyful voice. Wonderful.

Your “voice of pumpkin” stands in beautifully sharp contrast to the rest of your poem. Love how you move from melancholy to that joyful pumpkin!
