fading fast

garden of summers past

held a palmed rose

colours of petals everlast

in memory’s soft repose

final flower sighed tears

under dying sun’s pale heat

dreams wilt in urgent fears

sad colours earned retreat

Based on five charms (phrases) taken from Samuel Greenberg’s “The Pale Impromptu” (1915): a palmed rose, flower sighed tears, pale heat, urgent fears, colours earned retreat. Laura hosts at dVerse poets pub tonight.

“final flower sighed tears under dying sun’s pale heat,”… this is such a strong and poignant image, Lynn 💝

your title doubly reflects the season and mortality not least for Greenberg’s short span -like that of the flower but
    “colours of petals everlast”
    – and so has his poetry now

A very peace-inducing poem, Lynn. We know they will return and can relax until then.

I really like what you did with this. The literal and way in which this summer has gone make it very timely.
