point-of-view

under oath, bound
it astounds
why witnesses testify
to different perceptions
of same event
are these misconceptions?

even siblings
possess varying views
more or less of
their mother and dad;
of growing-up,
experiences had

emotions come
and depart
through eyes of the heart!

This week at dVerse Poets, Bjorn invites us to use our eyes to write a quadrille (44-word poem). A post today by Pilgrim on a Long, Long Journey gave me the ideas for my poem. Image from http://www.mirror.co.uk

I do understand that we cannot really trust our memories… still those eye witnesses are given so much weight

Your last line says it all … and brings to mind my term serving as a juror ten years ago. The jury seeing something different though the same face/eyes/mouth testified. We could not reach a verdict.

Yes, only the heart is true. The ancient Greeks had a saying – no one lies like an eye-witness, meaning everyone has a different experience of the same event or relationships.

This is so true! Perception is everything even when it is right in front of our eyes!
    Well done, Lynn.

Memories bleed over time and change with the viewer’s willingness to explore what may be true. I enjoyed your poem.

I am still astonished at the different perspectives we all have at the event

Good question, Lynn. I agree on heart and what it sees.
