man’s wisdom

De invites us to post a quick quadrille at dVerse poets pub

__________

we dabble in exploration,

attempting to map what we’ve

experienced of the wide world

but, like pre-Columbian charts

before discovery of a new world,

our lines meander meaninglessly

and our foolish cartography needs

drastic revision upon further research

and confirmation of actual reality

There is always more to discover beyond what we know today.

I also love “dabble in exploration.” But you summed it up at the end
    “our foolish cartography needs
    drastic revision upon further research
    and confirmation of actual reality”

I appreciate a poem that works in “pre-Columbian charts” and cartography. 😉

Very well done! I like the idea that maps always seem to be in need of revision!

Good one Lynn. Drastic revisions and more revisions are needed. Not all will accept the changes though sadly.

That’s so true, we are limited in our thinking

Actual reality is a hard pill to swallow some days .. your quadrille brings the point home. Well done!

Seeking… “confirmation of actual reality,” in this postmodern world, wherein consensus is nil, is challenging today. I try to follow the map of the Great Cartographer.

You’ve summed up man’s wisdom in 44 words, Lynn. If only they’d paid attention to woman’s wisdom. I like the alliterative phrases ‘our lines meander meaninglessly’ and ‘foolish cartography’.

All too true! Love that “dabble in exploration,” though! Getting there is half the fun, right?
