Lillian hosts dVerse poets pub where she’s serving quadrilles till sunrise.
dark cloud
gathers
over house,
heavy weight
of self-pity
settles in;
crawls into
bed with
depression to
brood sombre
mood;
unsettling
helpless inhabitants
who desire respite
but cannot
escape
shadow of
“woe-is-poor-me”
midnight feeling
…unless
faith dawns
miraculous
at sunrise.

The structure really helps the build of a tension to that last line, wonderful.

You’ve described the human condition for so many…..and concluded with the affirmation of faith. Beautifully done.

The dark night of the soul sometimes brighten with the dawn. I’m glad the poem is not autobiographical.
Jun 03, 2025 @ 08:54:37
Thanks, Merril…me too. But we all know someone…or could be us to go through such a dark night.
Jun 03, 2025 @ 19:21:48
You’re welcome, Lynn. Yes.
Jun 03, 2025 @ 01:54:27
I love the way the drawn-out shape of your quadrille reflects the drawn out darkness, Lynn, and then – voila! Sunrise! I also love the personification in ‘heavy weight of self-pity…crawls into bed with depression’.
Jun 03, 2025 @ 08:51:14
Thank you, Kim for noticing! 🙂
Jun 03, 2025 @ 11:24:50
You’re most welcome, Lynn.

Dance in the rain. 👏🏽 Do! Surrender to it my friend. Sending encouragement. And blessings

Thank you, dear Selma, you are sweet! This poem is not autobiographical but I like your suggestion to dance in the rain 😊
