To be an independent person
is that even a goal?
in puzzle of humanity, all pieces interdependent…
Or overthink, think, think it and become co-dependent
when one marries you are
ONE
whole/half holey
person; impersonate or get personal
flesh will mesh, soles mate
(maybe, baby—by wearing each other’s shoes)
but if it don’t fit…it pinches!
walk it out anyway
or choose friendship only, still grow old lonely
i wonder who/whom we really DEPENDS (trademark) on ?!
risky either way and
“we’re out of your size,” says shoe sales person.
Repeat after Dr. Seuss: “A person’s a person, no matter how small!”
Grace hosts a descort prompt at dVerse Poets. The word descort comes from the idea of discordia or disagreement. Variations in rhythm, rhyme, stanza shape, language, or voice reflected tension and emotional conflict within the poem itself. The traditional themes of the descort are inner turmoil, emotional conflict, and unrequited love.

I think the best relationships allow you to be independent at the same time as being part of a couple. It’s not easy though! Great poem :0

Clever take on sole, soul or shoes. I will choose friendship. Fun way to end the poem Lynn.

Friendship is worth the risk! Thanks for the prompt, Grace 🙂

I strongly believe you can be independent in togetherness… so I do not see any contradiction at all. It has to do with mutual respect and acceptance.

Yes, it’s a balance in a loving relationship…and none of us is an island, we need each other.

You the boss, Lynn. Wow.
Lynn, DEPENDS (trademark) made me ponder. 🤔 are we talking about a nursing home adult diapers?
So we’re aging in this poem. Oh my. Forgive me if I’m wrong. But if I’m wrong please tell me what that means. Thanks.
You’re still the boss!

Yes, you got the correct reference to DEPENDS ™ and aging. Love your question, Selma…my first attempt at a “descort” poem. The Boss 🙂

I loved how you played with your words and ended on a Dr Seuss aphorism. Excellent💛

I wasn’t sure if I “descorted” properly but then, there’s nothing proper about it! Thanks, Helen 😀
