Here I use a haiku by Chevrefeuille to create a “troiku” which is a unique form invented by our host at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai.  Like a Russian troika, the original haiku is the “sleigh” pulled by the 3 “horses”/haiku verses.

 

silent night

snow falls softly on the graveyard

the Savior is born

cold moon casts wolf’s grey shadow

abrupt bunny tracks

lays fir bough wreath

Chevrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai hosts haiku/troiku prompt.  He gifts us with first line: “when every gust of wind.”  Each stanza of troiku begins with next line from original haiku.

 

when every gust of wind
fans bright flames of fire higher
smoke and ashes whirl

________

when every gust of wind
exhales crackles, sizzles, pops
wood door comes unhinged

fans bright flames of fire
higher heat of inferno
old shed roof crumbles

smoke and ashes whirl
choking billows engulf all
inhale acrid breath

A troika ia a Russian sleigh pulled by a trio of horses hitched abreast of each other; a troiku is  a form of one base haiku (the sleigh) pulled by three stanzas (the horses), each beginning with a line from the original.   I’m not certain I’ve done it correctly but more information can be found at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai site on this interesting form!
