Happy to join Kristjaan at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai in an ekphrastic prompt!
in surreal dream scene
mysterious smoke signals
above lonely tree
is this a call to battle
or full moon celebration?

in rhyming verse Tags: faults, fools, mirror, reflective, smoke, soul
mirror, mirror, on the wall
could make fools of us all
walking past, we catch a glance
practice pomp and circumstance
if glass surface’s too reflective
naked soul knows we’re defective
we see ourselves, then look away
don’t focus on our faults today
mirror fogs with each warm breath
face clear truth before cold death
scripture’s gracious mirror heed
words of life are what we need
be not afraid to look in mirror
for hellish smoke is to be feared
Joining Amaya at dVerse poetics for a “smoke & mirrors” prompt.

in free verse, story Tags: crucifix, dust, flame, heaven, hymn, island, pyre, smoke, towers
Dark-vowelled smoking columns aspire ruin
as dust-tongued, forested roof caves innavely;
water-spoken island surrenders to timbers
of flamed and lillified heaven-circling pyre.
Aghast of tragedy, fire-dwarfed gargoyles are
hearting a tear-culled Paris in hymnally tone
to dignify bell-voiced ash of towering ages;
above rubble, The King’s cross, power-gilded stands.
Linking to dVerse poetics with Laura Bloomsbury and loving the hyphenate-coined words by poet Dylan Thomas (as featured in my poem).

in haiku, haiku series, troiku Tags: ashes, fire, flames, shed, smoke, wind
Chevrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai hosts haiku/troiku prompt. He gifts us with first line: “when every gust of wind.” Each stanza of troiku begins with next line from original haiku.
when every gust of wind
fans bright flames of fire higher
smoke and ashes whirl
________
when every gust of wind
exhales crackles, sizzles, pops
wood door comes unhinged
fans bright flames of fire
higher heat of inferno
old shed roof crumbles
smoke and ashes whirl
choking billows engulf all
inhale acrid breath

pines listen to nocturnal
noise as whispers of clouds
shadow dance with haloed moon
campfire embers glow while
smoke-curl whispers spiral up
i welcome irresistible tickle
when you whisper soft into ear
warm touch overwhelms words
