how to ride a heat wave

Create a fusion haiku from these 2 classics, then write a troiku for CDHK…

blue autumn skies
folded into mountains
purple shadow

such a hot day
my shadow needs to cool down
under the willow

my “fusion” haiku:

 cloudless sapphire skies
sun casts shadows of heatwave
mountain willow shade

my “troiku” series:

cloudless sapphire skies
left camp early to climb peak
perfect summer day

sun casting shadows
of hikers on rocky path
break into a sweat

mountain willow shade
rest to unpack picnic lunch
inhale alpine air

peace…and quiet?

pack me light

stamped for camp

undress the stress

in quiet wilderness

where grass rustles

stream gurgles clear

beaver crew bustles

clouds thunder near

meadow lark sings

mosquitos start riot

forest tree rings

stones, alone, silent

Listen to the “sounds of silence” with Dwight tonight at dVerse Poets pub…

whispered in forest

breathe clear mountain air

camp beneath whispering

pines listen to nocturnal

noise as whispers of clouds

shadow dance with haloed moon

campfire embers glow while

smoke-curl whispers spiral up

i welcome irresistible tickle

when you whisper soft into ear

warm touch overwhelms words

Torches shine along forest trail that leads to clearing.  Youth campers in Rocky Mountains gather around bright bonfire; jostle each other to find seats on long pine logs. Click off flashlights with excited whispers. Flames lick upward as sparks rise higher.  Guitar music wafts through smoke and singing begins.  A chorus of “kum ba yah” fades as heads quietly tip up toward heaven.  Eyes blink in wonder, above and beyond, to where floating sparks extinguish and a million twinkling stars ignite!

clear night on mountain

milky way spills across sky

deep infinity
