time to shine

Decastitch poem of 10 lines, 10 syllables each; see Elsie at Ramblings of a Writer.

angels illuminate this holy night
wreath of candles on table flickers bright
white lights twinkle from pine branches in snow
winter moon on velvet night sheds soft glow
joyful gleam in children’s eyes wait to see
shimmering garlands encircle the tree
carolers who sing under lamp post’s glare
gather near fire’s hearth with stories to share
each window mirrors shining stars’ array
celebrate light of the world born today

Decided to expand it for smoother reading out loud…at our Christmas Eve service!

As angels illuminated this holy night,
we light wreath of candles flickering bright.
White lights twinkle from pine branches in snow,
winter moon on velvet night sheds softer glow.
Joyful gleam in children’s eyes waiting to see
shimmering tinsel garlands encircle the tree.
Carolers, who sing under lamp post’s glare,
will gather near fire’s hearth with stories to share.
Each window mirrors shining stars’ array
as we celebrate the Light of the World today!

an invitation…for crying out loud!

A voice crying in the wilderness, make straight a highway for our God!

What shall I cry?
Come all you faithful:
young and old
rich and poor,
black and white
Come, let us adore him
on this holy night.

Prophets cry:
Woe to sinners
everywhere; our
guilty hearts despair.
But do not fear, for
heaven’s hope draws near!

The virgin cries
with urgent pain,
birthing firstborn
on straw’s bloodstain;
Do not be afraid,
love’s sacrifice is paid!

Host of angels cry:
God’s good will
on earth to men!
Fear not, they say,
Prince of our peace
brings shalom today!

Shepherds cry:
choose good news!
Messiah’s here,
in swaddling bound.
Worship, unafraid,
spread joy around!

God’s star shines fierce
searchlight to pierce
through darkest times
O Holy night
advent of Light,
we celebrate this night divine!

I had the privilege of writing and reading this for our Christmas Eve candlelight worship. May God bless us, every one…Merry Christmas to all!

if angels gave birth

if angels gave birth

their offspring would

be cherubic with…

round rosebud cheeks

innocently wise eyes

beguiling half smiles

petal-soft scented skin

miniature untried wings

slippery hot-pink halo

and a kissable bald pate

….almost as perfect

as our granddaughter,

Elon LaShay, loved by God.
