transpiration

As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.  Ps. 103:15, 16

Death does not discriminate but believes in equal opportunity for all.  Flowers and weeds, sinners and saints…each granted a brief cycle of seasons on the earth.  Life begins as a seed, planted in sanctuary of womb. Cells divide, cotyledon splits; embryo develops limbs, groping in darkness.  Birth breaks through to sunlight!  Youthful stem grows, green with life’s energy, curling out curious leaves.  Powered by nutrients through roots and pollinated by buzzing ideals, adolescence buds into flowering adulthood.  A productive life spreads, shades, bears nourishing fruit until the final harvest.  Life’s wisdom fades to delicate lace, leaving precious seed for the generation to follow.  How one lives determines how one dies.  May it be at peace, in the presence of the good and gracious Gardener.

breathing the name

our first inhale
inspires a wail

every breath on lease
until breathing cease

his name rests on our tongues
spirit fills up our lungs

oxygen’s gifts from above
inspire us to be, do, love

fuller gulps we request
when exerting our best

inhaling the holy
exhaling the hurtful

breathe in life’s air
breathe out a prayer

our final breath
expires in death

until…

resuscitated to life beyond here
drink deep of celestial atmosphere

altar of alterations

Change is the certainty of life —

we (un)certainly hold choice in our hands:

to fear strangeness of change,

or

to face love’s changing challenge;

to hide from (unfamiliar) monsters

or

to seek soul (familiar) opportunities

to shrink

or

to grow!

As we embrace each (minor) moment’s exchange,
we may become (major) catalysts for change:

watch butterflies emerge

encourage spirit’s surge

relieve evil’s scourge.

One must learn to trust the unchangeable One

who forms life

transforms change

conforms us

until his perfect (and perfecting) will be done.

Sometimes life can feel like just one disappointment after another…

(the greater our expectations, the more disappointed we may feel)
