move over, edward lear

Mastodon and pussycat went to sea

in a canoe without any oars.

Said Mastodon to Kitty, “Isn’t it pretty,

this mirrored reflection of stars?”

Replied puss to pachyderm,

“Move a little astern, your trunk

is blocking my view.”

So he took a step back but,

alas and alack! stars scattered

as boat tipped in deep blue…

…which may be why mastodons are extinct and cats hate water 😉

I love your cute poem! A great story for kids. I think they would get a laugh out of it.

For me, you seemed to have the most fun with it–pushing it gently into almost fable
It warms the soul, and tickles the elusive funny bone.

So far with this image, Lear was hinted at, but you’ve gone the whole way! A fun poem for Thursday morning and I love the comment at the end!
