down to hitch a ride atop
their fifth-wheel camper;
wear winter coats to ward
off winds pushing against

Thanks for the prompt, Mish…perhaps “leaf-stripped” is a bit hyperbolic (a few leaves lost)but it paints a picture, doesn’t it?
