sound of dripping

CDHK challenge to create a “fusion-ku” with the two given haiku:

black forest
night extinguishes
the snow

sun and snow
still in the pines
the black forest

Combination fusion-ku:

wet needles on ground
morning birdsong from branches
announces spring melt

forecast blues

stuck weather pattern only brings more rain

while farmers ripe to harvest feel the strain

soybeans swell fat, cornstalks rot wet

without a crop, families grow debt

we hope and pray for sun to shine again!

(oh no, could that be snow?!)

soggy bottoms

Elsie at Ramblings of a Writer challenges us to write a poem using “water” and “thirst”. Mine is an “etheree” with ten lines, each of increasing syllables.

wet

when it
rains it pours

saturation,
precipitation,
weather aberration

water cannot drain away
groundwater rises, creek beds flood

farmers, crops and lawns thirst for sunshine
iowa’s summer uncommonly wet!

wet lump of humanity yields

clay in Potter’s hands

chosen, held firm, gently shaped

fired, purified, filled

vessel to pour out His love

beautiful, useful purpose
