I.
listening sows seeds of empathy
kindness sows seeds of unity
understanding sows seeds of peace
waiting sows seeds of patience
curiosity sows seeds of knowledge
prayer sows seeds of faith
sacrifice sows seeds of love
II.
farmer hauls last harvest’s hard work of golden kernels
past this year’s green fields of new crops standing on row;
educator wraps up difficult school year with fresh ideas
for creative learning adventures with students next term;
graduate reminisces glory of past achievement even
while looking ahead in pursuit of future opportunities;
young mother forgets pain of groaning labor when
snuggling softly whimpering newborn to her heart;
married couple celebrates milestone anniversary
thankful for gritty grace to commit for lifetime;
writer smiles at words wrestled into submission after
thoughts are extracted, expressed with fluent flourish.

I enjoyed all the poems but the second one is my favorite. I love the idea that the good we sow grows into something much bigger and positive.

A very interesting spectrum of responses, & styles from stanza to stanza; but the third one seems like cool American Sentences, & it broke out of the strict parameters demonstrated by the first two; very liberating & imaginative. I like the farmer sentence/sub-stanza, so vivid passing in parade the crops on row. Nice effort, lovely results.

There are such wonderful lessons in your writing! I especially liked the gems of wisdom in the second stanza…especially ‘prayer sows seeds of faith.’ And in the third stanza I liked the idea that the laboring mother forgets all the pain the moment new life enters the world. I really loved your approach!

we have forgotten much of sowing and reaping since bible times….they used to be a bit more dependent on the land…and understood the metaphor better than us….none better than the farmer….our actions and attitudes tell the true story of it…

you know… i loved the first part esp cause it makes it so clear… we cannot sow a specific seed and expect that something else grows from it… some people think if they sow hate peace will grow.. and that will never happen

thanks, Claudia…so true! (not sure my third stanza “fits”…perhaps should be different poem…idea of planting/harvest/planting cycle)
