nonet: stanza(s) of nine lines, each with increasing # of syllables (1-9)    dVerse poetics

warm

days of

november

probably past

colder times ahead

forecast fog, wet grey rain

free- zing  an- ti- ci- pa- tion

smell of manure spread on bare fields

trees’ silhouettes swallowed by swift night

Nice form for this! I so like the photo as well. I remember when visiting family in the country and that manure smell. Great use of the nonet form!

The nonet form definitely works with your words–I’m looking forward to one in reverse ending with one word, Spring. Nicely done.

You had me smiling at spreading manure…memories when I lived closer to farmlands.

We’ve had some warm days at the beginning of November, but alas, you are right, those warm days are likely gone now until Spring.

So clever how you used dashes two separate freezing anticipation. Somehow that gave me a chilling feeling, maybe because everything seems to slow down in the cold. Enjoy the warm weather while you have it.

Haven’t tried the nonet form for a while, smiles ~ I love the warm early November days but surely as night, it is becoming colder ~

Sigh – this poem expresses the way it is here too, Lynn. That warm November weather was wonderful while it lasted. Freezing is definitely now on the horizon.
