old neighborhood

A quadrille (44 words) on the word “lull”,  linking to dVerse Poetics.

no one sits

on their front

porch anymore or

talks to neighbors

across backyard

patio fences.

no children play

on neat lawns

or ride bikes

together down

uneven sidewalks.

plugged-in society,

as dull hum of

blue screens

lull us all to

fitful sleep.

I think our society will suffer greatly because of this trend. I wonder why we are so easily lulled by the latest and greatest of everything. Great message in your poem…couldn’t agree more.

During my visit today with my mother, she and I were talking about how kids don’t play much outside anymore like we did when we were growing up. There has to be a balance…fresh air and being outside is good for all of us! 🙂

Yes, that’s all I see nowadays, kids and adults stuck to the screen ~ And I don’t use the screen to lull me to sleep as I think its a bad habit ~ Enjoyed this one Lynn ~ Thanks for joining us ~

Way too true. Like De, I’m happy to live in friendly neighborhoods….see, Nevada (where we both live) doesn’t exactly fit its stereotype! Just don’t go downtown!

I hope they play outside… I hope there is still someone who pause from screens every now and then

I love this. And it makes me thankful to live in a neighborhood where kids still play outside.
