my

little

brother

was three

when he

memorized

maurice’s

book about

wild things who

enjoyed a good

rumpus; now i read

to grandkids who

join with:

hoots and howls

grunts and growls

caws and claws

adding pent-up

sound effects

to rollicking

rampage of

A quadrille to join in the rumpus hosted by Kim at dVerse poets this week with credit to Maurice Sendak, author of children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are.

one good turn…

have you heard that “one
good turn deserves another”?
i concur; especially while
traveling, we agree (husband
and me) “there are no wrong turns
on vacation”; thanks to
global positioning systems
and map app which adeptly
reroute us as we discover
another alternate adventure!

We are on our way to Alaska with our pickup and camper…check out my post(s), “alaska or bust” for haiku and a few photos of our trip. Linking to dVerse Poets quadrille prompt.

trapped?

Lillian hosts dVerse poets pub where she’s serving quadrilles till sunrise.

dark cloud
gathers
over house,
heavy weight
of self-pity
settles in;
crawls into
bed with
depression to
brood sombre
mood;
unsettling
helpless inhabitants
who desire respite
but cannot
escape
shadow of
“woe-is-poor-me”
midnight feeling
…unless
faith dawns
miraculous
at sunrise.

ministry of presence

A quadrille (44 words) linked to dVerse poets where Kim invites us to walk quietly.

to come alongside

lone hurting person in

whatever hard situation

they find themselves.

one who quietly listens

attentive, undistracted

who accepts, validates

with humble posture.

to sit, stand, wait, walk

with fellow pilgrim on

a difficult path in life

hold up, hold on, hope!

batik mistique

indigofera tinctoria
grows in exotic rhyme;
soaking leafy euphoria
creates true blue in time

beat limed water, oxidate
into beautiful navy froth;
overnight paste will precipitate
filtered through cotton cloth

add sugary schemes,
ferment in vat for
tie-dyed indigo dreams!

Lillian hosts Monday quadrilles at dVerse Poets on “indigo” theme. I found this website that describes process of making indigo dye.

hold no regrets

snow birds flee midwest

home for warmer climes

south but cool vortex dips

down to hitch a ride atop

their fifth-wheel camper;

wear winter coats to ward

off winds pushing against

leaf-stripped palms around

covered swimming pool…

Hint: no place like home ?!

Mish hosts quadrille prompt at dVerse: can you take a hint?

bang on!

try (fitfully)
to sleep; i’m
depleted from
preparations:
hop, shop, clean,
bake, make room
in “mama’s inn
for (too late… or
too early?) arrival
so….. please (!)
don’t bang that
door (again) !!

yet, come & go,
and also know
you’re more
cherished
than sleep
to me .

My 44-word quadrille for dVerse as we end poetic year with a bang!

too merry to miss it?

Linking with Lisa and dVerse poets for quadrilles at the pub!

for some people,
holidays may mean
over-the-top sumptuous
feast with relatives

for others, it’s a
shopping frenzy of
over-the-top frivolous
spending with credit

for all us mortals,
let holy days celebrate
over-the-top gracious
presence, Emmanuel:

God With Us!

standing on the promises

promises made to be broken?

passion’s romantic love turns cold

marriage vows end in divorce

friendships sometimes betrayed

how good is your word?

gossip gives slight exaggeration

everyone tells little white lies

who can be trusted?

God’s promises have always

proven faithful and true.

What a blessing to hear my grand daughter, Anna, spontaneously sing the classic hymn, “Standing on the Promiseswhile playing at my house…of course, I joined in!

Can’t account for the unusual format…thanks to WordPress 🙂

online fidget spinner

circle on screen spins
as computer “thinks”;
interminable spinning
seeks missing links, or
while waiting for host to
allow guests and greet
to zoom room gathering
or another google meet.
trying desperately to
reload, refresh, retool
but constant spinners
make one feel dizzy fool!

prairie path

A summery quadrille (44 words) for dVerse where De is hosting…

summer shared on prairie
(local scene) seen as more than
one season if so pleasing

redwing blackbird pairs nest
best in wetlands of cattails
goldenrod bursts heady clumps

lavender bergamot follows thistles
whistles of insects through wild brome
sunflower beguiles smiles above it all

slumber party

slumber party hosted by famous bard?
i’ll sleep not a wink while genius sleeps hard
thoughts of sonnets and great theatrical works
poetic lore over snores, s’mores, and smirks;
in my warm flannels with hot cup of tea
i’ll dream of writing brilliant poetry!
