Joining Real Toads in Imaginary Garden today on the theme: “I Have No Mouth but I Must Scream” -title by Harlan Ellison
unborn baby girl
dodging abortion’s
sharp instruments
has mouth but
voice not heard
muffled in womb
unsafe sanctuary
tiny life unwanted
no fault of her own
they shout about
women’s rights,
“now let me grow
into a woman
strong, nurturing
seasoned in love —
help! it’s got me!
torn me…bleeding”
hear silent scream

Powerfully presented.

Very ultimate in subject matter of a voice that can’t talk. These babies have no voice in what happens to them, they are at the mercy of the mother, from ancient times a protectorate being. But no more. Well told, controversial I know.

Yes, I can hear that unborn child calling out, it’s breaking my heart just thinking about it. Very powerful poem. Have a nice weekend.

Yes, it is heartbreaking…thanks.

I so understand this, but I also know the horror of having someone you love raped and dealing with the aftermath.

Sadly, violence often leads to more violence…I know a great person who was conceived by rape. Difficult, indeed.

They need us to be a voice, I think.

“Unsafe sanctuary” presents a very complex image, almost as complex as the poem’s motif.
