hellfire-breathing

that ancient dragon
cunning serpent
epitome of evil
father of lies
the deceiver
our accuser
murderer

satan still prowls
“seeking whom he may devour”
whether sinners, saints, saviors

his loyal minions
destroy families
enslave addicts
abuse children
pervert truth
entice fools
incite wars

beware!

Linking with dVerse Poets where De Jackson invites us to write a quadrille (44 words) on “dragon” theme…

revenge of the dolls

A sinister sonnet…not my usual genre but we all have a dark side.

last night i lay upon inn’s guest room bed

where host’s mute daughter slept long years ago

alas, young girl was found mysteriously dead

in bloodied sheets which stains too well i’d know

her childhood room preserved in musty pink

suspicious dolls stare down from shelf by crib

false alibis reveal dark murderous link

they point toy dagger tip against my rib

“what evil lurks?” i scream in pulsing fear

but mannequins no mercy feel for flesh

not even ragged ann would shed a tear

berserk and vicious furies of knife flash

in morning, landlord spies fresh doll on shelf

that plastic face, i’d recognize…  myself!

personal notes on 23rd psalm

The Lord is my shepherd,

i admit to sheepishness; like a foolish, fearful, lost lamb

I shall not be in want.

Jesus is all i really want, all i’ll ever need

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
he restores my soul.

my provider sustains and renews me with peace for body and soul

He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

he leads me on the right path for my good and his honor

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,

the world is a dangerous place but i need not fear evil’s threats

for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me

my shepherd is ready to protect, defend, and rescue me

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

i will sit at the king’s table and enjoy his triumphal feast

You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

you raise me up to all i can be; my life spills your joy

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,

you are the Lover who pursues me… relentlessly

and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

abiding in his presence is my true forever home

hideous powers

world of violence

when we tolerate evil

cultures in rubble

align to  higher standard

pursue peace with sword of truth

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  (Ephesians 6:12)

universal experience

do you ever wonder

where do our wild ideas

of aliens and super heroes

or even basic concepts of

right and wrong come from?

do you know why it is

that every one of us cries

god’s name when we

find ourselves helpless

in overwhelming pain?

suppose God is there/here;

do you want to ask him why

so much grief and suffering?

why there is bullying, rape,

school shootings, abuse,

kidnappings, slavery…

why war repeats itself?

why can’t we find a cure for

cancer or unconditional love

in our human relationships?

we only see our dim reality

while a thin veil separates

us from another world of

supernatural beings locked

in a mighty cosmic battle

for this world and all its

inhabitants.  An epic conflict

of evil vs. good rages on

until a fiery end ushers in a

new beginning of perfection.

do we passively wait for

our end to come and that

new world to begin?  No,

we can receive new hearts

now and begin living the

bigger reality, in touch with

God’s original good plan;

reconciled and forgiven,

healing from our brokeness

and rebuilding this world.
