for Jean’s children

In honor of a dear family friend,  Jean (Holtrop) Sears.  For Sheila and Lon…

Grief is the thief
who steals our full
attention so abruptly
we lose focus on life.

Surprised by final loss
at end of long goodbye;
when body outlasts mind,
death’s blow is blunt reality

We cry for ourselves for
becoming motherless children
as we hold scattered memories
forever in our shattered hearts.

Sweet memories to keep
of one-and-only mother love;
wrapped in timely words, tight hugs,
and eyes smiling through tears.

Remember holiday gatherings with
enough food to feed a small army,
provision of a place to come home;
giving thanks for family and friends.

She encouraged us to be our best
but even if we disappointed her
forgiveness could always be found;
right now can be a new beginning.

Her loving influence yet evident,
revealed in lives of grandchildren;
by faith, she’s in God’s presence
and we will follow on the journey.

quotable quote

My final offering for 3 Days/3 Quotes challenge!

Tell me, what’s more American than Charles Schulz and Peanut M & M’s?!

If chocolate-covered Peanuts don’t inspire you, I don’t know what else would 😉

you are the gift!

i’d like to think
companionship is gift
we give each other

mutual mutuality
congenial congeniality
a cup of tea and poetry

in the garden
beg God’s pardon
walked together three

traditions worthy
bring dear family in
closer company

grand alma mater’s
anthem sings loyal
camaraderie

as faith enables
hungry sinners join
around graced table

dare to cross borders
dare not burn bridges
open eyes to see

friendly faces in
surprising places
tap hearts deep spaces

to simply be present
(and mostly pleasant)
is love’s best present!

tentoumushi love

yeah ladybug, ladybug,

fly away with me

one thousand screaming fans can’t

rid the house of ladybugs

The theme at CDHK today is “tentoumushi” (ladybug)

and ladybug season will begin soon enough…

sorrow’s prism

A haiga (photo with haiku poem) by lynn

enduring enigma

two beings, alike yet
opposite, attracted
like magnets (even
at times, repulsed)
will dare commit to
co-join in covenant
for a lifetime…how?

puzzling pieces fit,
monogamy wasn’t
meant as monotony.
God’s created design
established in Eden
cannot be denied,
ignored or forgotten.

patterned after Him,
the self-sacrifice is
worth it, revealing
true love is faithful,
life can be renewed,
and His eternal love-
stronger than death.

I  wrote this poem (unknowingly) the same afternoon my son asked his sweetheart to marry him, so I joyfully dedicate it to Lorn & Jessica!

learns comfort of thumb

inside warm, watery world,

of safe and secret sanctuary

tiny ears tuned to listen

to thrum of momma’s heartbeat,

fetal heart swishes double-time

in syncopated love song

ineffable miracle of life,

daddy anticipates the birth

by considering unique name,

for precious persona.

under his wings

God covers me

with his gentle hand

like a warm coat

in winter winds.

He covers me

with his wide mercy

like a big umbrella

in spring downpour.

He covers me

with his tender love

like a bridal tent

in summer sun.

He covers me

with his life’s blood

like a full pardon

in fall starkness.

He covers me

with his eternal grace

like a safe shelter

in all seasons.

“We live under an umbrella of goodness and mercy.”  (Pastor T. on Psalm 23)

“I am my beloved’s and he is mine…his banner over me is love.” (Song of Songs)
