judge book by (dust) cover

Melissa challenges dVerse poets to write to a quote from one of Leo Tostoy’s books

ancient dust thickly lies…
obscures discarded objects
personal mysteries unsolved
hidden in dark attic of soul

what is this discovery?!
favorite forgotten pillow
stuffing needs fluffing…
still choke on puffed pride

look in that corner box
something small, hidden
away…yuck! dead mouse
of musty, moldy pettiness

keep cherished photographs
of loved ones’ kindness but
let dirty dogged memories
lie sleeping and undisturbed

_______

(alternative title: pride & pettiness, but that’s another author)

pride goes before a fall…

Indecent behavior should be called out, not celebrated!

prior to flag day,

president flaunts pride banner

white house is disgraced

south lawn public exposure

(not chicken breasts at picnic)

coming out with pride

i may be confused and often uncertain
but i know i’m a BSW binary “she” woman

feel threat of whine lobby with sheer power to steer
education and culture in indoctrination queer

to flaunt “rainbow lifestyle” and banish cake bakers,
to finish off florists and expose photo takers

demand access to children to drag recruits in
destroy any churches who dare mention “sin”

i remember how, with hopes for a child,
man and woman vowed life in promises wild!

when we agreed to disagree, honest speech was still free
at birth accepted biology, sex seemed self-explanatory

people think we’re more intelligent today
let’s “follow the science” they say…yeah, okay

let real girls compete in “girls’ athletics” fairly;
and ovaried females win “Woman of Year” squarely

DSM once viewed gender disphoria as problem
maybe surgical mutilation not best way to solve ‘em

if “woke” business platforms would be truly inclusive
they’d tolerate all values, not be diversely abusive

double-X-chromosomed, i’ve got my pride too
so don’t bully grandmas who talk straight with you!

Pride is the mask of our sins. ~ Palestinian proverb

i’ve been working on this poem for awhile…seemed appropriate for “pride” month!

why look back?

audaciously catty

Playing with “anthropomorphism” at dVerse poetics with Lillian 🙂

fat cat in silky
top hat, walks
sleek this season
(has no reason
to run) saunters
too confidently,
(pompous louse)
directly to famed
doghouse- ritzy,
spacious place
(will absent dog
give chase?)
cat pauses for
grand entrance,
smiles smugly to
paparazzi & me.
then, full of pride,
he slinks inside
to curl up cool
in empty dish;
crinkles pug nose-
where’s my fish?
long afternoon nap
(could be a trap?)
it’s easy to be,
like i already said,
audaciously catty
after dog is dead.
