tired old man in the moon
had had enough of listening
to earth’s noisy troublemakers!
how can anyone sleep with
that infernal decibilled racket?
he was definitely full of it, so
he donned his top hat and
swallow-tailed coat, locked
his door and set sail to a star.
Ekphrastic poetry at dVerse poets’ pub hosted by Lillian and featuring the uniquely surreal artwork of Catrin Welz-Stein.

sweetest blood-red rose
comes weeping over city
bright tears, mourning star
dying bears love’s stigmata
risen in perfect beauty

David
plays the vigil
on piano as i read
passages
from old testament;
quilted stars
shine
across table runner
below window.
sangria
scented candle
flickers,
light of the world
illuminates
simple wooden
creche;
its characters,
sewn of soft felt,
arranged by
young child’s hands
to encircle and gaze
at a holy babe,
God
wrapped in
helpless humanity.
white lights,
silver and gold spheres
on Christmas tree
sparkle
in bow window.
glittering star
on treetop
points to sunrise
enlightening;
warm pinks
on cool
blues
of earth’s pale
winter
sky.

breathe lily-of-the-valley
touch rose of sharon
