nimbo forecast

The “Lai” is an old French form with 9-line stanza(s) of 5 syllables/2 syllables in repeated pattern and rhyme scheme: aabaabaab.

i wish we could sing
of winter or spring
limbo
what will weather bring?
sunshine’s raincloud fling
bimbo
robins on the wing
mud on everything
gumbo

Tan Renga challenge at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai

picnic by the sea

Linking to Gina’s picnic themed haibun prompt at dVerse Poets

Camping near the beach, we plan a picnic lunch to the enticing sound of surf. The cool morning sea breeze has acquiesced to the gentle sun’s insistent warming. We pack water bottles, ham, cheese & lettuce sandwiches, chips, sugar cookies, and  mandarin oranges into the yellow backpack. We pull on swimsuits, grab thick towels, sand implements, and two shapeless sack chairs for us parents.

In sandals and flip flops, we traipse across hot asphalt parking lot, zigzag along boardwalk down the grassy dunes to the beach. Happily off-season, we take our time choosing just the right spot on the uncrowded sand. Mom and Dad commence to read or nap in the sun while sons eagerly deploy tools for building the world’s greatest sand castle near the water.

maleficent (I)

no sleeping beauty, she’s an
(un)fairy, frightful villainess
come back in black; horned,
winged, pale with hungering

what do you offer to appease?
appeal? tease? or try to deal?
a cupcake?! O, she’s no mousy
muffin that you’d be stuffin’!

whip up a delicacy for those
cynical red lips, a mouth that
purses when speaking curses;
bake over coals of tongued fire,
in thick forest of thorny briar

rich, dark chocolate cake–it’s
devil’s food; a true-love’s kiss
baked inside, laced with poison;
white-frosted, too-sweet icing

serve at dawn as darkness dies

rise!

disciples and Jesus
share passover meal
Judas betrays him—
kiss seals the deal

arrested, on trial
in kangaroo court
soldiers spit, hit,
crown him for sport

Pilate denies
hate crucifies
Messiah dies

tomb found empty
wondrous surprise
because he lives
we, too, will rise!

The day after Resurrection Sunday and linking a quadrille (44 words) for dVerse prompt using the word “rise”.

crumbling lady edifices crucifix

Dark-vowelled smoking columns aspire ruin

as dust-tongued, forested roof caves innavely;

water-spoken island surrenders to timbers

of flamed and lillified heaven-circling pyre.

Aghast of tragedy, fire-dwarfed gargoyles are

hearting a tear-culled Paris in hymnally tone

to dignify bell-voiced ash of towering ages;

above rubble, The King’s cross, power-gilded stands.

JOY of Light series ~ finale!

Completion of my series for retreat at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai….

XX.

light explodes in tomb

hallelujah, Christ arose!

all graves will empty

It’s the beginning of “passion week” for the church.  We will celebrate the death of Jesus for our salvation. Christ, the Lord of life and light, has the final word over death on Resurrection Sunday. He is my JOY!
