mysterious crossing

Shiki, one of the Big Five haiku poets, wrote this in classical style:

when I looked back,
the man who passed
was lost in the mist

his haunting haiku inspires my attempt as follows:

glance out my window

cloud wisps pass before half moon

glimpse coyote shadows

the blood moon

is a woman;

she bleeds her

monthly tide

as proof of

her fertility;

she labors

through phases

add nausea-um

waxes gibbous

and convulses

with hot birth.

her heart aches

behind the

dark side of

loneliness;

a face that

no one sees.

her secret

sorrow is the

knowledge that

she’s only the

reflecting mirror

of manly sun’s glory.

Bright sliver of moon

in rosy sky at dusk

gleams sideways smile,

poised, waiting…

grinning confidently

as tired old sun

burns down slowly,

limps below dark edge

of corn rows’ silhouette stage.

Day’s number is done…

time for moonlight’s moves!
