Kim at dVerse Poets hosts “rain” quadrille (44 words) prompt this week…
mist hangs thin veil
covers landscape,
shrouds horizon.
sky heavy with humidity
air’s mood presses in,
mildly claustrophobic;
when clouds cannot rain.
hair hangs thick veil
covers face,
shrouds emotion.
heart heavy with futility
mind’s mood presses in,
wildly claustrophobic;
when tears cannot reign.

A quadrille muddle at dVerse Poets pub this week…
it’s chores time on our family farm
calves gathered in a huddle
to vaccinate from microbe harm
we chase them, catch ‘n cuddle
sometimes the work goes like a charm
sometimes the herd’s befuddled
calves vs. farmers by the barn
in an unlucky, mucky muddle!

Lillian “gathers” poets to write quadrilles at dVerse this week…
Gather
for instruction
in synagogue
teacher sits down,
unrolls scripture scroll
“I have come”
Gather
for confrontation
in street
demon-possessed boy
falls, foams, rolls on ground
“Evil be gone.”
Gather
for healing
in home
lame man stands, rolls up mat
“You’re made whole.”

you may
call me egg-head
for trying to write a
spring quadrille of eggs
-actly forty-four words (now
you know that forty-four counts
as one word, right?) and also for
making this poem egg-shaped,
(simply eggs-ceptional) just
don’t egg me on to pen
more yolks!
Kim hosts an “egg” quadrille prompt for dVerse Poets this week before Easter…

prince of this world
like a lion in lamb’s wool
sneaking, seeking prey
as one who would devour
we like sheep sleep
King of the universe
like a Lamb led to his
shearing, spearing, pray
to One who would ransom
sheep from death’s sleep

stress
hard pressed
fire’s hot test
find release valve
to manage pressure
start to count love’s good gifts
name all that makes you grateful
hold joy in life’s little moments
live each day with enthusiasm
clinging to hope, you will not crash and burn
It’s calving time on the farm and our manager/son had an emergency appendectomy so he’s laid up for a month. The rest of us are working hard trying to cover for his absence!

another absent father
whether unwed, divorced,
or imprisoned.
family needs stability, child lacks security
boy without manly model,
abandoned heart.
educational system poor fit,
disillusioned mind.
socialization by bullies,
tormented soul.
when slow burning anger eventually flares into violent rage,
why are we surprised?

how long believe
blind rhetoric?
why hire doctors
to do harm?
instrumental rape
violates mother with child
what kind of ghastly
choice is offered?
by salt poisoning, chemicals,
or crunch of infant skull
when will men honor
mothers’ calling?
where have hope’s
children gone?
Linking with dVerse Poets quadrille prompt…sorry this topic is neither pleasant nor Christmasy. Yet our brokenness and sin is why Christ came…as an infant to a poor, young woman in seemingly scandalous circumstances. Would we have aborted Jesus?

Joining dVerse poets with quadrille #44 for “kicks” tonight 🙂 A “quadrille” is a poem of exactly 44 words, not including title…I counted hyphenated words as 2.
since nineteen
twenty-six, midway
thru roarin’ twenties,
classic car aficionados
cooly cruised or raced
rip-roarin’ midway
across america’s past,
passed, and passing
drive-ins, diners,
and wigwam motels
motoring along
singing a song
wheeling to
get their kicks
on route sixty-six!
